{"id":2988,"date":"2022-10-03T10:51:52","date_gmt":"2022-10-03T09:51:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/dev.codethisfor.me\/redwood\/?p=2988"},"modified":"2023-12-06T12:43:25","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T12:43:25","slug":"new-regulations-require-polyurethane-pu-training-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dev.codethisfor.me\/redwood\/2022\/10\/new-regulations-require-polyurethane-pu-training-update\/","title":{"rendered":"New regulations require polyurethane (PU) training update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New diisocyanate regulations have meant that from 24th August 2023, all professional and industrial users of polyurethane (PU) adhesives and sealant products within the EU and UK, now require additional training.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Why new regulations are being introduced<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The regulations target unsafe handling of diisocyanates used in polyurethane (PU) products, whilst allowing adhesives and sealants to remain widely available.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">It is aimed at industrial and professional use and does not impact the DIY market.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Training requirements<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Training must be completed by 24th August 2023 and renewed every 5 years.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The certification involves passing an examination and employers must maintain records of their employees\u2019 training.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Changes to labelling requirements\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">New REACH labelling has also been introduced for diisocyanates (used in polyurethane (PU) products), stipulating that training is required.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Products sold within the EU and UK with a total monomeric diisocyanate concentration greater than 0.1% intended for professional or industrial use, must now include this statement on the product container labels:\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cAs from 24th August 2023, adequate training is required before industrial or professional use.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This sentence has to be visibly distinct from the rest of the label information. The deadline for implementing the labelling regulation was 24th February 2022 and includes foam products and roofing adhesives.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The updated labelling reinforces that training needs to be implemented by 24th August 2023.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Available training\u00a0<\/span><\/b><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">FEICA (the Association of the European Adhesive and Sealant Industry), has been developing a comprehensive training programme with several other bodies within the PU industry, to ensure the safe use of diisocyanates.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Training is currently only available for product users within the EU.
